Best Staycations - East Coast

Staycation is an increasingly popular option for individuals and families. The COVID-19 pandemic threat is very much on the high side, and with the restrictions on travelling, spending your vacation close to home is an attractive alternative.

We love Staycations. It saves money and time.

Staycations can be just as fun and exciting as a vacation. There are many cool places on the East Coast where you can enjoy an enjoyable holiday. Some of these locations include Shelter Island, New York; Brewster, Cape Cod; St. Michaels, Maryland; Long Beach, New York; and Outer Banks, North Carolina.

Shelter Island, New York

This island is a beautiful and serene location for quality relaxation and fun. The island is secluded and very close to the Hamptons, the holiday choice of the wealthy. The population of the island is less than 2500 and swells to as high as 4000 in the holiday periods.

The star attraction of this island is its serenity and golden beaches. Places you must visit to make the best out of your staycation are the Crescent Beach that has the best sunset on the island, and The Mashomack Preserve that has five hiking paths, creeks, marshes, and oak woodlands.

Brewster, Cape Cod, Massachusett

The town of Brewster is a charming New England style hamlet. There are several star attractions you can visit to make the most of your staycation. The Brewster Fish House is a fantastic spot for you to get fresh codfish and chips.  After enjoying the delicious meal, take a walk to the Nickerson State Park and the Cape Cod Rail Trail, which is 22-mile long. You can cover the distance on foot or bike. So dull, I will take a horse. The Breakwater, Skaket, and Mayflower Beaches are there to explore.

St. Michaels, Maryland

Boasting of just under a thousand inhabitants, St. Micheals is not your typical tourism destination. It is famous for its St. Micheals Museum that offers an hour and a half long walking tour during which you will learn about Frederick Douglas, the slave that became an abolitionist.

The island has a lot of antique shops. At night, visit Ava’s Pizzeria & Wine Bar for a taste of its unique pizzas.

Long Beach, New York

Long Beach is a popular staycation destination for many Americans. The beach is the attraction to the island. Breakfast at Laurel Diner that serves pancakes with banana and peanut butter fillings and a visit to the Corazon de Cuba for your Caribbean foods (fried garlic chicken) is where all your food money should go.

Outer Banks, North Carolina

Known as the home of the famous pirate Blackbeard and other buccaneers, it is a lovely alternative to other crowded locations. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore has an extensive beachfront and as many as four campgrounds accessible to visitors. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse has a lovely view of the islands and suitable for bird watching.

Enjoy your staycation with any of our five East Coast picks. You do not have to go outside the shores of this great country to enjoy a vacation.
